Why do we celebrate waitangi day?

Waitangi day celebrates the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi.
The people that signed the Treaty of Waitangi on behalf of the English were William Hobson and  James Busby the people that signed on behalf of the Maori’s were the Maori chiefs.
It was signed on the february 6th 1840.
On Waitangi everybody has a day off work and school. Waitangi Day was on Thursday of february the 6th. On that day people can have a day with their families. On Waitangi day, we remember that the Maori and Pakeha made peace.
